FED:Parliament to discuss two CSG bills

Federal Liberal and Labor's support for coal seam gas mining industry will be tested
in parliament this week when the Greens and a key independent MP introduce bills to increase
landowner rights and protect water quality.

Independent MP TONY WINDSOR wants to slow down the "frenzy" of development in the CSG
industry and plans to introduce a private members bill tomorrow extending existing federal
environmental laws.

In rural Queensland and NSW farmers are concerned that CSG industry's fracking process
- the injection of chemicals, water and sand at high pressures to crack rock and release
gas - will poison underground water, contaminate good agricultural soil and cause serious
health problems.

Greens senator LARISSA WATERS is due to introduce the party's bill into the Senate
on Wednesday but it will struggle for support after Opposition Leader TONY ABBOTT ruled
out backing it.

Fed: Haneef has not caused change at AFP

By Peter Veness

CANBERRA, Feb 18 AAP - The Australian Federal Police has changed nothing about the
way it conducts terrorism investigations despite the bungled Mohamed Haneef case.

Police commissioner Mick Keelty today told a Senate estimates committee there had been
an internal investigation but no changes had been made to processes inside the force.

Dr Haneef was arrested by federal police at Brisbane International Airport last year
and detained for a month on terrorism-related charges which were eventually dropped by
prosecutors.

"We, in any major investigation review ... as a matter of course how we've done the
investigation," Mr Keelty said.

"We have reviewed the Haneef matter as a matter of course and there's nothing that's
arisen out of those reviews that required us to alter our policies or alter our approaches
to those investigations."

Mr Keelty did mention there was an on-going internal investigation into another, unnamed,
case where the police were concerned about some matters.

"We have a current inquiry in relation to another matter that's not yet reported where
we were concerned about particular issues."

Attorney-General Robert McClelland is expected soon to announce the details of a judicial
inquiry into the Haneef case.

"The AFP welcomes any inquiry into our role in the Haneef inquiry.

"We have absolutely nothing to hide," Mr Keelty said.

FED:Detainees continue protest

By Belinda Cranston, Angie Raphael and Ed Logue

SYDNEY, April 24 AAP - As a protest at Sydney's Villawood detention centre entered
its fifth day, immigration officials have downplayed reports of a mass hunger strike at
Western Australia's Curtin facility.

Three protesters remained on the roof of Villawood detention centre on Easter Sunday afternoon.

Two of them had been there since Wednesday, when a riot involving up to 100 detainees
broke out, leaving nine buildings gutted by fire.

Twenty-two of the protesters were earlier this week transferred to Silverwater Correctional
Centre and questioned by police.

Officials from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship were waiting to negotiate
with the remaining three protesters, but only if they came down from the roof at Villawood,
a spokeswoman said.

"We are prepared to meet them," she told AAP.

Social Justice Network spokesman Jamal Daoud said security staff were not allowing
anyone access to the protesters, leaving them without food or water.

"They're getting water on the roof but they have to come down to get food," a department
spokesman told AAP when asked on Sunday afternoon.

Well known for speaking out on behalf of refugees and detainees, Mr Daoud complained
he was handcuffed and forced to kneel after an argument with police on Saturday afternoon
at the centre.

He said he was taken to Bankstown police station and later released with a $350 fine.

"The police officers were acting with deep hate, disregard for basic civil rights,"

Mr Daoud said.

In Western Australia, Ian Rintoul from the Refugee Action Coalition said a hunger strike
and sit-in involving about 300 detainees at Curtin Airbase detention centre, in the state's
remote West Kimberley region, was expected to escalate.

The protest against visitors being prevented from going to the centre over the Easter
weekend began on Saturday morning, Mr Rintoul said.

"The asylum seekers are asking that they be allowed to see refugee supporters who have
travelled from Perth and other cities to see them over the Easter weekend," Mr Rintoul
said in a statement on Sunday.

The Immigration Department downplayed the claim, saying about 150 Afghan refugees had
started a "peaceful protest" on Saturday afternoon.

"I can confirm that some people skipped a meal but it's not unusual to do that," a
spokeswoman told AAP.

She added that there was food available at the centre's canteen, and that snacks like
noodles were available in the tea room, which meant some detainees sometimes skipped meals
in favour of snacks.

"The centre is calm. There are just some people sitting in the outdoor reception area
at the centre," she said.

Meanwhile, the Australia Greens have urged the federal government to increase its refugee
intake by about 50 per cent.

Greens federal MP Adam Bandt suggested the government lift the number of refugees accepted
into Australia to 20,000 a year.

"Our view is that we should have a quick and humane process and, of course, if someone
is found not to be a refugee or we have reached our limit, then we should, of course,
return them safely, provided it is within our legal obligations," Mr Bandt told the Ten
Network on Sunday.

He recommended that asylum-seeker applications be processed within 30 days.

"It gives enough time for security and health checks," he said.

FED: Want cheap petrol? Drive to Sydney

By Colin Brinsden

CANBERRA, April 19 AAP - Sydney is by far the cheapest Australian city to buy petrol,
with pump prices dropping by 4.2 cents per litre in the past week.

The national average for unleaded petrol eased 0.8 cents per litre to 128 cents, the
Australian Institute of Petroleum said in its latest weekly report released on Monday.

The metropolitan average fell 1.2 cents per litre to 127.3 cents, led by the sharp
fall in Sydney, while the regional average eased 0.2 cents per litre to 129.3 cents.

Commonwealth Securities chief economist Craig James said a "petrol price war" was heating
up in Sydney with some motorists able to buy petrol at below cost price.

The terminal gate price, or wholesale price, held around $1.22 a litre compared with
$1.18-$1.20 a litre commonly seen across Sydney, he said.

The average Sydney petrol price last week (122.3 cents) was nearly seven cents below
that of the next placed Perth (128.9) and just over seven cents cheaper than Melbourne
(129.4).

"We can only speculate about the reasons for the petrol price war and about which companies
are driving the moves at the pump," Mr James said in a research note.

Generally price wars break out across industries if a stronger, established operator
wants to exert pressure on the rest of the market with the aim of squeezing out weaker
operators.

"For motorists, the petrol price war is clearly good news in the short term," Mr James said.

"But if competition is reduced as a consequence then it could potentially lead to higher
prices in the future," he said.

In the near term, a fall in the wholesale petrol price to 121.7 cents last week from
a 17-month high of 122.5 cents should deliver lower pump prices across the nation for
the next seven to 10 days, he said.

Qld: Luxury Gold Coast apartment sales on the move

By Tony Bartlett

GOLD COAST, Dec 4 AAP - Cashed-up buyers are making a splash ahead of Christmas in
the luxury waterfront residential sector on the Gold Coast.

On the northern end of the coast a mansion on the Sovereign Islands has changed hands
for $9 million, while a luxurious penthouse on nearby Ephraim Island has sold for $2.23
million.

The Sovereign Islands mansion boasts six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.

The $600 million Ephraim Island development has notched up $19 million in sales in
the past three months, on top of a multi property sale to one purchaser of $24 million.

Developed by Mirvac and private developer Lewis Land Group, Ephraim Island is the only
medium density luxury residential development on an island on the northern Gold Coast.

While the general luxury residential market has been patchy on the Gold Coast, there
has been strong demand and a significant rise in the level of inquiry in the past few
months, Mirvac CEO Matthew Wallace said.

"In the past three months, sales have ranged between $600,000 and $1.35 million," he said.

"There were seven new apartment sales in excess of $1 million, four waterfront villas
were sold and four marina berths were sold for between $100,000 and $180,000."

Buyers were a mix of existing Ephraim Island residents, local Gold Coast residents
and interstate purchasers.

David Vertullo, from Professionals Vertullo Real Estate at Paradise Point, said there
has been a wave of buyer interest, including from overseas, for luxury homes and waterfront
apartments.

"Our agency has sold more than $30 million in prestige property in the past month," he said.'

"I believe people are now thinking the worst of the global financial crisis is behind us.

"Australia has fared relatively well by world standards and there is only a strictly
limited amount of prime located waterfront `lifestyle property' available, so they have
decided to act."

Mr Vertullo said comparable properties in Sydney or overseas would be changing hands
at millions of dollars more than they are currently on the Gold Coast.

Oly: Sullivan comes up short in bragging rights

By John Coomber, Senior Sports Writer

BEIJING, Aug 16 AAP - If Eamon Sullivan and Stephanie Rice get back together, best
not to mention gold medals.

While Rice has confirmed her place as Australia's darling of the Beijing Games by winning
three gold medals, Sullivan has only a slim chance of joining her as an Olympic champion.

He went into the 50m freestyle final as the world record holder, but his goggles filled
with water when he dived in and the best he could do was sixth behind Brazil's Cesar Cielo
Filho.

As Filho wept with joy on the victory dais, Sullivan was left to ponder how he had
again failed to deliver his best swims when it really mattered.

To rub salt into the wounds, Sullivan would have won if he'd reproduced his time from
the Australian trials in March.

He also went into the 100m final two days earlier holding the world record, but was
outgunned by Frenchman Alain Bernard.

"I was swimming with a little bit of blurred vision and that freaked me out a little
bit," Sullivan said after today's final.

"I rushed my race but that is no excuse.

"I still gave 100 per cent and wasn't good enough."

It was the fifth time at these Games that an Australian had lined up as world record
holder and gone under.

Sullivan's last race is the 4x100m medley relay tomorrow, the race in which Michael
Phelps is expected to win a record eighth gold medal.

While all the attention was on Phelps's Houdini-like performance in the 100m butterfly
today, Australian Andrew Lauterstein was thrilled to bits just to be part of it.

Lauterstein picked up a surprise bronze medal behind Phelps and Serbian Milorad Cavic,
whose team protested unsuccessfully that the timing mechanism was faulty and he had reached
the wall before Phelps.

"It felt like I was dreaming - words cannot comprehend how I am feeling at the moment,"

Lauterstein said.

His medal boosted Australia's tally to 22, almost half-way to the projected Australian
tally of 45 as the Games reached their mid-point.

Race walker Jarred Tallent was responsible for what might be the high point of Australia's
track and field campaign when he also won bronze in the men's 20km walk.

Elsewhere the pickings were slim.

The Hockeyroos went down 2-1 to world No.1 team Spain and will now have to beat China
to advance to the semi-finals.

The Boomers beat Russia 95-80 to stay on course for the medal matches.

Australia will now look to rowing finals and track cycling events later on the program,
and to swim team captain Grant Hackett, who is bidding to win a third consecutive 1500m
freestyle title in tomorrow night's final.

Hackett produced the second fastest swim in history in winning his heat last night,
but faces an unexpected challenge from 19-year-old Canadian Ryan Cochrane, who was within
two seconds of him in the other heat, with Russian Yuri Prilukov only a blink behind him.

The final is expected to be the fastest in Olympic history.

Fed: Chaser team to take their show on the road

SYDNEY, Dec 5 AAP - After their highly successful television ratings year in 2007,
the Chaser crew are leaving the small screen and taking their show live next year.

The Chaser's War On Everything will not return to the ABC in the first half of 2008
while the team take on a nation tour of a new live production, The Chaser's Age of Terror
Variety Hour, from March to June.

"After heeding Today Tonight's complaints about the outrageous waste of taxpayers'
money on their show The War On Everything, the Chaser team has decided to take some time
off from TV in the first half of 2008,'' they said in a statement.

"The Chaser will adopt a purely user-pays approach next year, mounting a national tour
of a new live production."

The show will combine sketches, songs, presentations, interactive audience segments
and, the team promises, "up-to-the-minute insensitive gags about the latest celebrity
deaths as they happen".

Andrew Hansen, Chas Licciardello, Julian Morrow, Craig Reucassel and one of the Chaser's
founding members, Dominic Knight, will appear in the show, while Chris Taylor takes time
off to develop new television projects for the team.

"The Chaser team is still in negotiations with the ABC about future TV shows," they said.

"Their negotiations with commercial networks of late have mainly been over Supreme
Court injunctions."

The War On Everything averaged 1.45 million viewers for the year, peaking at 2.24 million
in September, after they infiltrated security at the APEC summit with a fake motorcade
and one of their number dressed as Osama bin Laden.

Eleven people involved in the stunt were facing APEC security breach charges, but police
today said they were considering whether the charges should be dropped.

The Chaser's live show will travel to Adelaide, Ballarat, Brisbane, Canberra, Cairns,
Darwin, Geelong, Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne, Newcastle, Parramatta, Perth, Sydney and

Tickets go on sale on December 10.

Qld: ABC workers to move out of cancer scare office=2

The review, chaired by Sydney University public health professor Bruce Armstrong, concluded
it would have been reasonable for 1.6 women in the studio to have suffered breast cancer,
but the prevalence could not be due to a statistical abnormality.

It found women who worked for the broadcaster in Brisbane were between three and 11
times more likely to suffer breast cancer.

The report ruled out a number of lifestyle and environmental factors, but was unable
to pinpoint the cause.

The women did not have a higher level of personal risk factors, as all did significant
amounts of exercise, were non-smokers and none had a family history of cancer.

The investigation also tested radiation levels in the building and ruled that out as the cause.

An ABC reporter who attended the meeting with Mr Scott said about 250 people worked
at the studio.

Staff in the newsroom, where the concentration of cancer was highest, would move out
today, she said.

Most would probably work temporarily at the Ten Network and Network Seven's newsrooms.

Staff at other programs such as Australian Story and Landline would be moved to a temporary
location in coming days, she said.

"When Mark Scott, the managing director, handed down the report, there were a number
of women who were crying," the reporter said.

"A combination of emotions for the people they know, the women who have had breast
cancer, and of course for these young girls in their early 30s who are now concerned that
they might have ... conducted breast cancer because they've worked there."

NSW: Greens worry cyanide bound for mine could spill

SYDNEY, April 7 AAP - Emergency services should be boosted along the route which cyanide
will be transported to a new NSW gold mine, the Greens say.

In response to a question from Greens MP Lee Rhiannon in parliament, the NSW government
this week revealed the route the cyanide will take to Lake Cowal, near West Wyalong in
central western NSW.

It will be railed from Gladstone in Queensland to Chullora in Sydney, then transported
by road to Camellia, by rail to Dubbo and then trucked to the mine, which opened at the
end of last month.

Ms Rhiannon today said emergency services along the route needed to be prepared for
a possible cyanide spill.

"With 6,000 tonnes of cyanide travelling this route every year there is a grave danger
of a poisonous spill on a major highway," she said.

NSW government upper house leader John Della Bosca this week said the Lake Cowal mine's
transport plan for hazardous materials had been endorsed by the Department of Planning.

"I am advised by the Department of Planning that the transport of cyanide occurs on
a regular basis in Australia and is subject to strict commonwealth and state statutory
standards designed to ensure that such material is transported safely," Mr Della Bosca
told parliament.

Sodium cyanide solution is commonly used in commercial mining to separate gold from ground rock.

Fed: Tax keeping workers from jobs - Labor

MELBOURNE, April 1 AAP - Marginal tax rates were forcing some Australians out of the
workforce and discouraging others from higher career aspirations, Shadow federal treasurer
Wayne Swan said today.

Mr Swan, speaking at the Sustaining Prosperity Conference at the University of Melbourne,
said the OECD latest Taxing Wages Report showed marginal tax rates for Australian families
were, in most instances, among the highest in the OECD.

"High marginal tax rates are insidious and they have for years been taking a toll on
the aspirations of hard-working Australians," he said.

"They are likely to discourage workers from seeking promotion, continuing their education
or working overtime because of the poor marginal returns involved.

"We are the world champions at putting in place disincentives for people that want
to work hard to get ahead."

The federal government had made the problem worse for some families following the 2004
Budget, Mr Swan said.

"They spend two years of each three-year cycle squirrelling money, the last year simply
shovelling out large sums of cash in untargeted ways to win an election and all the time
making the incentives of the system worse."

Tax reform would be at the forefront of Labor's attack on the government this year, Mr Swan said.

"I don't underestimate just how difficult and daunting tax reform is either for my
party or for the country," he said.

"But we have now reached the point where it must be done to secure our future prosperity
and that will be the objective of the Labor Party in the months ahead."

WARNER-EMI DEAL IS MUSIC TO INTERNET'S EARS.(Business)

Time Warner's merger deals with America Online and EMI were hatched separately, but they both help advance a common goal: bringing music to the Internet.

Time Warner's chairman and CEO, Gerald Levin, has been saying for months that the music business would be the first big winner from opportunities in promotion and distribution offered by the Internet.

He repeated that mantra yesterday in announcing the merger between his company's Warner Music Group and EMI of Britain, which would create the world's largest music company with $8 billion in annual revenues. Seagram's Universal Music Group had been No. 1 with $6.3 billion.

``Music, out of all our businesses, is the one that will benefit most from the Internet and the digital revolution,'' Levin told a London news conference via satellite from New York.

To be sure, Time Warner's blockbuster merger with Internet leader AOL, announced just two weeks ago, is expected to be a far greater catalyst in bringing music and other elements from Time Warner's media warehouse online. AOL's 22 million subscribers offer a giant market to be exploited.

The addition of EMI will create a massive stable of 2,500 artists and a large music catalog of albums and songs to be delivered over the Internet or shipped via CD to consumers.

``It can only help'' accelerate a digital music push, says James Penhune, an analyst with Yankee Group. ``It certainly isn't a cataclysmic event like the AOL merger, but it adds fuel to the fire.''

Other analysts pointed to other, more conventional rationales behind bringing Warner and EMI together: cutting costs by eliminating overlapping operations.

The companies say they would save $400 million a year by the end of three years. As part of that drive, 3,000 jobs are being cut, or 13 percent of the company's combined work force of 23,000.

Ken Berry, who heads EMI Recorded Music and would be chief operating officer of the merged company, said the cuts would most likely come in manufacturing, distribution and back office areas

The deal doesn't solve one problem faced by both companies - a dearth of hot new music acts.

Warner has a big stable of well-known artists such as Cher, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Madonna, Metallica and REM, but its fortunes have been declining in recent years as its acts have grown older.

EMI boasts names like the Spice Girls, Van Morrison, the Beatles, Rolling Stones and Frank Sinatra, but it too has been slumping recently.

Unlike the AOL-Time Warner deal, which combined two fairly different companies, the Warner-EMI union could face tighter scrutiny from antitrust regulators since it reduces the number of major record companies from five to four. The others, besides Seagram's Universal, are BMG, which is part of the German media conglomerate Bertelsmann, and Sony.

The board of the new company, which would be called Warner EMI Music, will sell one of every four CDs bought in the United States. The back-to-back mergers come just as the music industry is coming to terms with the Internet. The major labels initially opposed distributing music digitally out of fear of piracy, but several have been experimenting with ways to distribute music securely.

MINNEAPOLIS, June 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ATK (NYSE: ATK) announced that it will participate as an exhibitor at the 2011 Paris Air Show. ATK will highlight a variety of capabilities and programs at the show, which will be held at Le Bourget Airport from June 20-26, 2011. ATK is located in Row A, Chalet 100.

"International cooperation among allies and industry is vital to global security," said ATK President and Chief Executive Officer Mark DeYoung. "The international market, particularly through the partnerships ATK enjoys in Europe, is an important component of ATK's strategy for the future. ATK is well positioned for international growth and the company offers significant systems and capabilities to the United States and its allies."

The Paris Air Show provides ATK an opportunity to highlight its growing capabilities in several business areas, including commercial and military aerospace structures manufacturing. ATK is a major provider of large composite structures for the Airbus A350, an established supplier of composite structures for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program, and provider of composite fan cases and fan case sections for the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB and GEnx engines. These contracts build on ATK's decades of experience in large-scale composite manufacturing and expand ATK's role as a leading supplier of commercial aircraft composite structures and engine components.

The Paris Air Show will also provide potential customers the opportunity to obtain information on ATK's light gunship platform, which integrates intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) sensors, fire control equipment, air-to-ground missiles and rockets, as well as the LW30mm link-fed gun system. The light gunship capability package is the latest addition to ATK's Special Mission Aircraft product portfolio, which provides affordable, responsive and advanced capabilities to customer-preferred platforms. ATK recently announced its new Hostile Fire Indicator capability upgrade for the AAR-47 Missile Warning System. ATK is the first company to deliver this key capability as part of a proven missile warning system. The company continues to leverage its years of experience to design, develop, and produce aircraft survivability equipment, such as the AAR-47 Missile Warning System to meet the urgent operational requirements of the warfighter.

ATK will highlight the focusing of the company's unique and longstanding expertise in space exploration to serve NASA and commercial space launch needs. While ATK's four-segment Reusable Solid Rocket Motors continue to support the launch of the space shuttle as the program nears retirement, ATK is furthering the development of its upgraded five-segment solid rocket motor, which is well-suited for both commercial launch and NASA heavy lift missions. In addition, ATK is upgrading its Castor 30 motor to support commercial resupply missions to the International Space Station.

ATK will display the Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile (AARGM), which provides the warfighter with the latest and most advanced weapon system for engaging and destroying enemy air defenses and time-critical mobile targets. Hospital Ratings Study Flawed, According to HealthGrades.(Report)

Denver, CO (PRWEB) May 19, 2011

The findings of a journal article published in the May issue of the Archives of Surgery are fundamentally flawed and could undermine patients ability to find high quality hospital care, according to HealthGrades. The article, Evaluating Popular Media and Internet-Based Hospital Quality Ratings for Cancer Surgery, compared outcomes for gastrointestinal cancer patients who underwent surgery at hospitals on HealthGrades' "America's 50 Best Hospitals" and US News and World Report's "America's Best Hospitals" lists. The study asserts that hospitals with the best outcomes for three surgical procedures were often not among those listed as top performers by HealthGrades and US News. HealthGrades America's 50 Best Hospital designation is based on patient outcomes across 27 common medical procedures and diagnoses and is intended to reflect a broad spectrum of clinical excellence in patient care.

"While we're encouraged by the study authors' attempts to help patients find accurate quality information, in this case this study may have the opposite effect and might actually discourage patients from getting the information they need to make critically important health care decisions," said Dr. Rick May, HealthGrades Vice President, Accelerated Clinical Excellence. "More than 10 million patients a month visit HealthGrades.com looking for information on hospitals and doctors and they trust us to provide the most accurate information on health care quality. We take that responsibility seriously and that's why, for the last decade, we have conducted the most rigorous statistical analyses of hospital quality in America. We stand firmly behind the accuracy of our hospital ratings, including our list of America's 50 Best Hospitals."

HealthGrades identified major flaws in the methodology upon which the Archives of Surgery study findings are based.

*     The study authors compared two disparate groups of patients: Cancer patients undergoing cancer surgery were compared to non-cancer patients with a variety of other diagnoses. For example, the study essentially compares the outcomes of cancer patients to the outcomes of patients having knee replacements or being treated for a stroke. HealthGrades "America's 50 Best Hospitals" analyzes outcomes data from 27 different procedures and diagnoses, none of which are the three focused on in this study, pancreatectomy, esophagectomy and colectomy. HealthGrades hospital ratings for gastrointestinal procedures and diagnoses exclude patients with primary and metastatic cancers because tumor staging and grading information is not available through the Medicare administrative data set. Thus, it is not possible to adequately risk adjust this data.

*     The study included only a small fraction of the Medicare patient records analyzed by HealthGrades in its America's 50 Best Hospitals study: The 2008 HealthGrades America's 50 Best Hospitals study recognizes hospitals that have demonstrated superior performance spanning eight years of Medicare patient data (1999 to 2006), across common 27 diagnoses and procedures. The HealthGrades analysis includes over 100 million patient records. The study authors used only one year of data (2005 -- 2006) and outcomes for just three procedures, which accounts for 85,000 patient records.

*     The study methodology tries to compare two different treatment time frames and different outcome measures: HealthGrades America's 50 Best Hospitals study uses in-patient mortality and complications, whereas the study authors only looked at 30-day mortality.

HealthGrades America's 50 Best Hospitals are determined by independently and objectively analyzing more than 100 million Medicare patient records for 27 medical procedures and conditions. To be included in the analysis, hospitals must have met minimum thresholds in terms of patient volumes, quality ratings, and the range of services provided. Individuals may compare their local hospitals online at HealthGrades.com. HealthGrades' hospital ratings are independently created; no hospital can opt-in or opt-out of being rated, and no hospital pays to be rated. Mortality and complication rates are risk adjusted, which takes into account differing levels of severity of patient illness at different hospitals and allows for hospitals to be compared equally.

Complete procedure-by-procedure comparisons of the HealthGrades America's 50 Best Hospitals and all others can be found at HealthGrades.com. A comprehensive methodology for this award and all HealthGrades hospital ratings and rankings is also available online.

About HealthGrades

HealthGrades is America's most trusted, independent source of physician information and hospital quality outcomes. HealthGrades' online properties are the nation's leading destination for physician search and empower more than 200 million consumers annually to make informed health care decisions.

Market Maker Surveillance Report. LVLT, IWM, EEM, EFA, INTC, KEY, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Wednesday, April 13th 2011.

M2 PRESSWIRE-April 14, 2011-BUYINS.NET: Market Maker Surveillance Report. LVLT, IWM, EEM, EFA, INTC, KEY, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Wednesday, April 13th 2011(C)1994-2011 M2 COMMUNICATIONS

RDATE:14042011

BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2568 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2508 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2763 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. LEVEL 3 COMMUNICATIONS INC (NASDAQ:LVLT), ISHARES RUSSELL 2000 (NYSE:IWM), ISHARES MSCI EMERGING MKT IN (NYSE:EEM), ISHARES MSCI EAFE INDEX FUND (NYSE:EFA), INTEL CORP (NASDAQ:INTC), KEYCORP (NYSE:KEY). To access Friction Factor, Naked Short Data and SqueezeTrigger Prices on all stocks please visit http://www.buyins.net .

Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction

LVLT $0.020 1.20% 23,212,433 45.40% 27,503,333 53.79% -4,290,900 Abnormal

IWM $0.060 0.07% 33,632,812 45.94% 38,023,306 51.94% -4,390,494 Abnormal

EEM $0.340 0.70% 25,024,056 47.56% 28,715,180 54.58% -3,691,124 Abnormal

EFA $0.110 0.18% 6,218,343 42.45% 9,788,596 66.83% -3,570,253 Abnormal

INTC $0.010 0.05% 17,943,746 46.94% 20,203,281 52.85% -2,259,535 Abnormal

KEY $0.070 0.85% 8,305,562 39.91% 10,093,539 48.50% -1,787,977 Abnormal

Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Wednesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows LVLT with 4,290,900 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.02000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.

Airbus has opted to make Panasonic Avionics' in-flight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC) solutions line-fit offerable on the A350 XWB, in a move that shows a willingness on the part of Panasonic to meet the European airframer's architectural requirements for the widebody twinjet and an easing of tensions between the two firms. The contract, signed on 4 February at Airbus' headquarters in Toulouse, means that A350 customers will be able to select from Panasonic's cadre of IFEC solutions, including full-cabin audio/video on demand (AVOD) and the firm's global communications suite comprising its Ku-band satellite-based high-speed Internet offering eXConnect, Airborne Television Network, and eXPhone mobile phone service, which is offered via a partnership with Telenor subsidiary AeroMobile. The IFEC equipment will be installed on A350 XWB flight test aircraft MSN002, says Panasonic Avionics CEO Paul Margis. Feb 5, 2010

Microsoft Corp. Introduces Boston Sidewalk on World Wide Web.(Originated from The Boston Globe)

Jul. 1--Microsoft Corp.'s local information service called Boston Sidewalk debuts today, bringing yet another entry into the already crowded field of Internet information providers.

Boston Sidewalk, at http://www. boston.sidewalk.com, is billed as a comprehensive site for information about dining and entertainment options around the city. It's Microsoft's third local outpost, following the April debut of Seattle Sidewalk and the May unveiling of New York Sidewalk.

Already, the local field is crowded with several major information sources, among them Digital City Boston, available on America Online, and Boston.com, developed by a subsidiary of The Boston Globe. Several smaller local sites provide specialized restaurant listings or reviews of arts events.

"It's definitely a competitive category, but we're trying to take the power of the medium and make it personal and useful for local residents," said Gail Troberman, Seattle-based marketing manager for Sidewalk.

Users can customize Sidewalk to automatically retrieve preselected information, which, for example, could be new restaurants or specific performers or artists. The information is posted to each user's Boston Sidewalk home page, essentially making each page different for each user. Weekly e-mail updates are also available. Detailed maps accompany the restaurant listings; similarly, music and cultural listings are paired with lists of nearby restaurants.

Like all of the first Sidewalk cities, Boston was selected because of its combination of significant factors: high on-line use, and active nightlife and varied cultural offerings.

"We'll be in about 10 cities this year," Troberman said. "We have teams on the ground getting ready to launch in various sites, so we'll be rolling out a city or two a month throughout the year, with more to follow." This colonization push also extends to Sydney, site of the 2000 Summer Olympic Games.

Boston Sidewalk operates out of a converted Canal Street loft in the North End and employs fifteen full-time staff people, many of whom were recruited from AT&T's foundering new media division.

Seattle Sidewalk employs 12 full-time staffers; New York's staffing level of 20 to 25 full timers suits the myraid entertainment options available in the Big Apple.

So far, the Sidewalk sites limit their focus to entertainment-related themes, which may limit the number of site visitors, said Lincoln Millstein, Boston Globe vice president for new media.

"I think they will learn very quickly that people won't go to Boston Sidewalk every day because people don't go out to eat every day and don't go to the movies every day," Millstein said. "Boston.com is up to 650,000 page views a day, making us the single largest regional Web site in the country. I think they will find it very difficult to match that kind of traffic."

Troberman declined to reveal usage figures for Seattle or New York Sidewalk sites, but said "We set some really aggressive goals and we're doing well."

Trish Barber, the "mayor" of Digital City Boston, said Boston Sidewalk is a strong competitor in specific areas, but that her site's presence on both AOL and the Web should continue to "drive a lot of people into the site, which should be attractive to advertisers as well as users."

But with its plans for a worldwide miniempire in multiple cities, Sidewalk hopes to attract a variety of national and local business partners, general manager Barry Kurland said.

"National advertisers can have wide coverage in major cities, but being local means that someone like Barnes and Noble can promote bookstore happenings in Boston locations, or Club Med can promote different vacations to cities on different coasts," Kurland said.

Despite its major backing, Boston Sidewalk will have a "soft opening," trotted out quietly over the next few weeks. Kurland said the local marketing team will explore feedback from both advertisers and users before begining in-city and on-line advertising campaigns.
