NSW: Polls show Rudd still leader, but Howard picks up
Two new opinion polls show Labor still ahead of the coalition .. and KEVIN RUDD still
leading Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD in the popularity stakes.
An ACNielsen poll .. published in Fairfax newspapers today .. reveals while Labor has
dropped four percentage points since the last poll in early March .. it would have won
an election last weekend on a two party preferred basis .. 58 per cent to the coalition's
42 per cent.
Poll figures at the October 2004 election showed the coalition held 53 per cent of
the vote, compared to Labor's 47 per cent.
And a Galaxy Poll .. conducted last week for News Limited newspapers .. also reveals
Labor would have received 58 per cent of votes to the coalition's 42 per cent after preferences
.. if the election was held last weekend.
Labor would have received 49 per cent of primary votes to the coalition's 37 per cent.
It says while 56 per cent of voters prefer 49-year-old Mr RUDD as prime minister ..
compared to 36 per cent for 67-year-old Mr HOWARD .. 49 per cent still preferred Mr HOWARD
at the helm of Australia's economy than 34 per cent in favour of Mr RUDD.
The ACNielsen poll also showed Mr RUDD continuing his lead over Mr HOWARD as preferred
prime minister .. 51 per cent to 42 per cent.
