Fed: ACT Tibetan community says protests will be peaceful
The Canberra leg of the Olympic torch relay may be more peaceful than some of the overseas legs.
It follows a pledge by Australia's Tibetan community not to do anything violent when
the flame reaches Canberra later this month.
Pro-Tibetan protesters have disrupted the torch relay on the London and Paris legs
prompting Beijing Games officials and security forces to take extraordinary measures to
protect the flame and runners.
TSERING DEKI .. from the ACT Tibet community .. says local Tibetans are planning a
non-violent peaceful protest in Canberra on April 24.
TED QUINLAN .. chairman of the Torch Relay Taskforce .. has called on other protesters
to follow the Tibetan community's lead.
Mr QUINLAN's told the Nine Network they recognise the right to peaceful protest ..
and they're asking those who want to support Tibet to also honour their wishes for a peaceful
protest.
