Financial adviser jailed for stealing from elderly victim
A financial adviser has been jailed for stealing more than $130,000 from an incapacitatednursing home resident.
DARYL JOHN MAGUIRE of Cleveland, in Brisbane, pleaded guilty to dishonest concealmentof material facts between December 1999 and July 2000.
41-year-old MAGUIRE was working as an insurance broker and financial planner when heused $137,000 of funds from the sale of the elderly stroke victim's farm near Adelaide.
The money was to be invested and used to fund nursing home fees and all other bills,which MAGUIRE was supposed to pay.
Instead he used the money to lease cars and get out of debt.
Brisbane District Court Judge BRIAN HOATH sentenced MAGUIRE to three years jail, withrelease after 12 months.
